Granddad/Summative

These are photos I took at my Grandfather's funeral.  The theme I chose for my summative was death.  I hope that these photos convey the theme and I believe they do.  I chose the top as my best because it is a picture of my Grandfather's plate, the Egyptian desert is the background (where he was stationed during the war).  I wanted to capture a bit of his life while still revolving around the theme.  I used a variety of techniques including symmetry, and selective focus.  I really like these pictures and will keep them forever.  My Grandfather was an amazing man quick to put his family above himself, we love him very much and I am so happy that my family will be able to enjoy the photos I created.  Thanks for reading.

Nature

This is the May theme, I took a series of nature photos the majority of which I took using the Macro setting on the camera.  I believe this is my best contact sheet I have done thus far in the semester.  I am extremely satisfied with every photo and believe they show creative aspects of my photo taking.  For my best picture I chose one of a caterpillars nest I found close to my house.  After messing around a bit I found a really cool angle where the nest looks almost like a tree.  You can clearly see caterpillars walking on and it is a perfect shot for this months theme.

Surrealism

My original idea with this assignment was to contrast light/dark and life/death, this proved to be difficult so instead I decided to take a photo and make it appear to be in a different location than it was previously.  I took this picture near the back pitt and meshed it with a photo I took on the third floor overlooking the library.  My favourite part of this photo is the multiple suns (top right, bottom left, middle right).  I put the picture of the window behind the tree and erased between branches and anything that was not part of the tree.  I am somewhat satisfied with this picture, as I am not good with photoshop it didn't turn out how I wanted.  However I enjoy the concept of surreal photography and will explore it further on my own time.

Lost And Found

Reflection
My original Idea was to incorporate George Bush Jr. into a picture that would explain his capitalist nature/evilness.  I stumbled upon a picture with Bush's face covered in oil this lead me to a similar idea.  I then googled photos of Bush and found one of him smiling, then found a photo of a smile with blood smeared around it.  I glued the mouth to the original photo added some text ("Oil Keeps Me Smilin'") and this is the final product.  I feel this piece has a strong message, I lived in the U.S. during 911 and have alot of knowledge on Bush and his influence on America.  I believe this piece is engaging the only thing that could have been more well done is the neatness of the cutouts I used.  I am extremely satisfied with this picture and feel it carries a strong message.

Gaze

These are the gaze photots, for the majority of them I used selective focus to draw attention to the subject's gaze.  I chose this as my favourite for various reasons but mainly the reporters gaze and amout of attention she is recieving.  I also like the one of Ryan outdoors and of my dog.  All of these photos are proper gazes and I believe they show alot about the subjects.

Things That Make Me Happy

I chose this particular photo because I enjoy the mix of simplicity and rule of thirds.  I didnt do anything special when setting up this photo.  The arrows draw your eye immediately because of the all blue background.  If I had to give this photo a title I would call it the world goes round, but thankfully I don't have to do that.
